Intex Standard Pool Pumps

Most Intex pool kits include a pump/filter assembly. This equipment plays a very important part in keeping your water clean. Circulation and filtration are one of the most critical aspects of maintaining good water quality. Intex sells several models with different capacities and filter sizes. These pumps are quite simple with no advanced features or performance compared with pump/filters designed for permanent pools. They also can be noisy and they aren’t very durable so they will eventually fail after a few years of use.

However, they will likely perform adequately for you for the most part. If your pump does develop a problem, it’s quite easy to order a replacement by phone or on the internet. Several options are listed below, organized by type. It might be a good idea to consider upgrading your pump to a model sold with a larger pool with more capacity. Since it could take a week or more for a new pump to be delivered to you, it might not be a bad idea to order an extra one at some point so that you you have a spare on hand. This way, if your normal pump fails, you can replace it without devloping problems in your pool.

Pump/Filter Combination Units:

Intex also sells a pump unit that is combined with a cartridge filter & salt water chlorine generator. See the Amazon links below for pricing, user reviews, and more information on this unit.

SWG/Pump Units

As far as filters go, you must change or clean your filter regularly, especially during the months where you use the pool often. Even if your water is clean & clear, you should still service your filter each week. If you are having problems with your water such as dirt, slime or algae then you may need to service your filter every day. The good news is that you do not have to use a brand new filter each time. To clean a dirty filter, aggressively spray it with a water hose. You can usually clean a filter 3 or 4 times before you have to replace it with a completely new one. You can purchase your filters at local retail outlets (sporting goods stores, pool stores, Wal-Mart, etc) or you can save quite a bit of money by purchasing several at a time (in bulk boxes of 10, 15, 20 or more) online. This is especially cost effective if you buy during the fall, winter or early spring. Obviously, you must buy the filter size (designated by letters, A, B, C, D, etc..) that matches your pump.

  1. LOVE our new oval pool, but I need to clean the filter cartridge. How do I get it out of case without water going everywhere?

    • Your kit should have included stoppers (black, rubber things that look like tiny hats) or valves. The stoppers are pushed into the suction and discharge ports on the wall of your pool. If you received valves, those should have been installed outside of the pool. Either one will prevent water from flowing into the pump unit while you are removing the cartridge filter.
